Visual Arts at Hunt Middle School

Ellen Montgomery (aka Monty) has been teaching art at Hunt Middle School for the past five years.  The visual arts program that is taught at HMS is not the art program so many adults may remember being a part of when they were kids.  Ellen infuses a culturally responsive lens in her practice.  Students in grades 6th through 8th study and create both 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional art from around the world.  Students learn about and create art inspired by artists from North America, Australia, Europe and Asia.   Her new website http://emontgo7.wix.com/hms-art  is a great example of a website that both inspires and informs visitors about the art program at HMS.

This fall Ellen  joined a group of art teachers who work together to create their  own art, share ideas, and collaborate. They  are having an art show at the Fletcher Free Library from Dec. 15-Jan 30. The opening is Sunday, December 15th at noon. The art show is made up of art educator-artists. They worked together to create artwork that features the use of text in some form (words, maps, symbols, poems etc) and was multi-media (paint, collage, marker, oil pastel, colored pencil, printmaking etc). They created three collaborative pieces that features the tenets from the 8 Habits of Mind.
